Log Home Renovation Journey….

The beginning…

It’s Official — The Log Home Is Ours…..It still feels a little unreal saying it out loud, but it’s official… the log home is ours.

Of course, along with the excitement comes a long list of projects, plans, measurements, sketches, and late-night conversations about layouts and ideas. I’ve already measured the space, entered everything into AutoCAD, and started playing around with possible configurations. It’s been equal parts thrilling and eye-opening seeing just how much potential this place has — and how much work it’s going to take to bring that vision to life.

We’ve been talking through it all: our wants, our needs, our must-haves, and the “it would be nice if…” ideas. Some things we agree on instantly. Other things take a little more back-and-forth. But that’s part of the fun — dreaming together and slowly shaping what this home will become for us. This isn’t a rush job. We know it’s going to take time, and honestly, we’re good with that. We’re building it with intention, one project at a time, in whatever spare time we can carve out.

Right now, the priority is buttoning up the exterior. Before anything cosmetic or fun happens inside, we’re making sure the outside is solid and protected. That means a new roof, bringing in log home specialists to repair any damaged areas, blasting the logs (we’re still deciding between sanding or media blasting), and then sealing everything properly so it’s preserved for years to come. It’s the kind of work that isn’t glamorous but makes all the difference.

Inside, demo is coming soon. That’s when things will really start to feel real — when walls come down, spaces open up, and we can finally see the true structure and framework of the house. Once it’s opened up, we’ll be able to better understand how everything flows, what makes sense structurally, and how we truly want to lay things out. Seeing it stripped back like that gives a much clearer picture than any floor plan ever could, and it’ll help us make smarter decisions before we start rebuilding and refining each space.

For now, though, winter is slowing us down a bit. We got a good snowfall, so we’re waiting for things to melt before we can move the RV and our equipment over to the property. Thankfully, our old neighbor — who bought our previous place — is letting us store things there until the ground clears. That kind of kindness makes a huge difference during a transition like this, and we don’t take it for granted.

So here we are. At the very beginning. Big plans, long to-do lists, cold weather delays, and a whole lot of excitement. This house isn’t going to transform overnight, but that’s not the goal anyway. The goal is to build something meaningful, lasting, and ours — step by step.

Thanks for being here.
Pull up a chair and stay awhile.
